A quick introduction

Ah tomatoes, it seems like we can never grow enough of them! The taste of our tomatoes is something we are quite proud of and we have noticed that it's the crop that our members value the most. They are part of the same family as aubergines, peppers and chillies, and are incredibly versatile and a popular ingredient in so many different cuisines. One cannot imagine mediteranean food without tomatoes, even though they are a fairly recent ingredient as they were brought to Europe by the conquistadors in the 16th centure. Our tomatoes come in varying form, sizes and colours: you will find them ranging from the most common bright red, to deep purple, all the way to green. A few of our favorite varieties are: 'Black cherry', 'Berner Rose', 'Green Zebra' and 'Goldiana'.

Storage

There is some debate whether tomatoes should be stored in the fridge or not. We find that they do stay longer in the fridge and don't think it affects their taste too much.

Suggestions for preparation

When in season, tomatoes are incredibly delicious on their own. To fully enjoy tomatoes from the farm as they are, slice them up, sprinkle them with some salt to let them release their glorious juice and serve them as is, just with a small addition of a few drops of good olive oil. To this simple dish, add some good fresh mozzarella or burrata and some basil to make a simple and delicious summer Caprese.

Depending on the type of your tomatoes, you might choose different methods of preparation. Small cherry tomatoes are very sweet and work well raw in, for example, salads, but can also be oven roasted along some oil, salt, herbs and garlic for 1, 1/2 to 2 hours to make a delicious tomato confit. Large beefsteak tomatoes are delicious when sliced and put in sandwiches and burgers. Try our tomatoes along cucumbers, olive, onions and feta for a classic and delicious Greek salad.
